BREAST CANCER WALK- BOSTON, MA
CameroonONE members participated in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell. TeamVi, alongside hundreds of other participants, walked in celebration of survival on either the 5.7 miles long (9.17km) or 2 miles long (2.3km) routes. Our Walkers on Team Vi donned specialized CameroonONE Breast Cancer emblems to signify the unknown number of victims of Breast Cancer in Cameroon. Breast Cancer is the commonest malignancy in Cameroon and women aged 30 to 55 primarily suffer from Mammary Ductal Carcinoma; women above 55 mainly from Invasive Lobular. Many patients go for long periods of time without a diagnosis and vague findings of Breast Cancer are often incorrectly identified as benign. We thank Team Vi for calling attention to an issue that is often overlooked. Women in communities with little availability to proper health care face both the disease and the helplessness and frustration of not being provided a chance to fight it.
